Landing gear from back in the day seem to all have had wheeled landing gear bases as opposed to todays wide flat foot. The reason for this varies but the best answer says that when a truck would hook to a trailer, the wheels would allow the trailer to roll instead of being stationary, relieving pressure, helping to not warp, bend or compromise the landing gear. or its components.
